Le projet de recherche collaborative intitulé TRACS ( Transatlantic Cultures. Cultural Histories of the Atlantic World 18th – 21st Centuries ) vise à élaborer une plate-forme numérique encyclopédique afin de mettre en œuvre une histoire des circulations culturelles dans l’espace atlantique à l’époque contemporaine dans une perspective pluridisciplinaire associant historiens, anthropologues, sociologues, géographes, musicologues, spécialistes de littérature, d’arts, de théâtre ou encore de cinéma. Si le premier objectif du projet est de décrypter l’économie complexe des échanges entre l’Europe, l’Afrique et (...) les Amériques entre la fin du XVIII et le début du XXI siècles en partant du postulat selon lequel le monde atlantique a été un laboratoire privilégié de la mondialisation culturelle, il propose également une réflexion sur les processus identitaires et les frontières qui ont contribué à l’établissement et à la reconfiguration des grandes aires culturelles, ainsi que sur les régimes circulatoires des pratiques, des savoirs et des représentations d’une rive à l’autre de l’océan sur le temps long des 250 dernières années. Pour mener à bien notre démonstration, nous aborderons trois aspects essentiels : le premier tient à la définition même de l’espace atlantique, à ses lignes de forces et à ses frontières ; le second concerne les temporalités de son histoire, longtemps restreinte à l’époque moderne ; le troisième relève des objets étudiés et de la spécificité de l’histoire culturelle, conçue comme une histoire sociale des représentations, des pratiques et des productions symboliques, face à des approches de nature géopolitique et aux Cultural Studies. Os Espaços Discursivos, fundamentados nos conceitos da Teoria do Agir Comunicativo de Jürgen Habermas, possibilita por vias democráticas, debates sobre formação, gestão e inclusão escolar no âmbito das Redes de colaboração estabelecidas entre a universidade, as redes de ensino municipais, estadual e com Instituições de Ensino Superior de países lusófonos; pela via do projeto de pesquisa e extensão. Busca-se compreender o Espaço discursivo como espaço de participação entre sujeitos que mediante o discurso, apresentam argumentos para elaboração de consensos e fortalecimento (...) do entendimento mútuo, no sentido de captar os movimentos vivenciados por pesquisadores e participantes de processos de pesquisa realizados pela via da pesquisa-ação ou investigação-ação; e ainda fomentar a elaboração de espaços formativos colaborativos na defesa da formação humana na perspectiva da inclusão. Optamos por empregar a pesquisa-ação colaborativo-crítica de cunho qualitativo, para entender como os Espaços Discursivos vêm se configurando no contexto do grupo de pesquisa. Nesse processo inicial de pesquisa, tomamos os argumentos dos participantes nos momentos de constituição da compreensão sobre Espaços Discursivos, nos planejamentos e realização deles. Participaram duas redes municipais de ensino, sendo envolvidos gestores (municipais), estudantes e professores (graduação e pós-graduação), sendo tematizadas a formação, as políticas públicas, a gestão e a pesquisa-ação. É urgente o desafio de aprofundarmos sobre esses processos e é um enorme desafio instaurar a cultura da sustentabilidade da vida, ou seja, promover uma releitura de mundo onde a vida em todas suas relações e contradições seja centralidade. Zu den Charakteristika philosophischer Spiritualität in der Spätantike gehört das besondere Interesse sowohl für Hierarchien als auch für Rituale. Dazu zählen einerseits sich stetig vervielfachende Stufen einer metaphysischen Ontologie, die zugleich als Hierarchie göttlicher oder auch dämonischer Wesen gefasst wird, andererseits nicht nur die Diskussion über Kultpraktiken, sondern auch deren intensivierte Ausübung. Vorstellungen eines stufenweisen Ab- und Aufstiegs der Seele sowie der Begegnung mit den unterschiedlichen Klassen höherer Wesen im Rahmen theurgischer Rituale verbinden diese beiden Aspekte; so kann sich schliesslich (...) der Gedanke entwickeln, der vollkommene Philosoph sei der vollkommene Theurg. Music can reduce stress and anxiety, enhance positive mood, and facilitate social bonding. However, little is known about the role of music and related personal or cultural variables in maintaining wellbeing during times of stress and social isolation as imposed by the COVID-19 crisis. In an online questionnaire, administered in 11 countries, participants rated the relevance of wellbeing goals during the pandemic, and the effectiveness of different activities in obtaining these goals. Music was found to be the most effective activity (...) for three out of five wellbeing goals: enjoyment, venting negative emotions, and self-connection. For diversion, music was equally good as entertainment, while it was second best to create a sense of togetherness, after socialization. This result was evident across different countries and gender, with minor effects of age on specific goals, and a clear effect of the importance of music in people's lives. Cultural effects were generally small and surfaced mainly in the use of music to obtain a sense of togetherness. Interestingly, culture moderated the use of negatively valenced and nostalgic music for those higher in distress. (shrink)

O artigo analisa a hipótese emitida por Willy Theiler em 1965 e retomada por John Dillon em 1992, segundo a qual o termo ἀμφίστομος (‘com dois rostos’, ‘com duas bocas’) empregado por Plotino uma única vez na primeira parte da sua tetralogia antignóstica, isto é, no Tratado 30 (III, 8), 9, 31, constitui uma expressão característica dos Oráculos Caldáicos. Afim de examinar essa hipótese, nós resumimos o debate entre especialistas a respeito dessa hipótese e analisamos os diferentes sentidos implicados no (...) uso da expressão ἀμφίστομος nos Oráculos Caldáicos e em Plotino a partir do contexto polêmico no qual ela é citada. Nossa conclusão é que o estudo da metafísica medioplatônica dos Oráculos Caldáicos pode trazer uma melhor compreensão do diálogo entre os pensamentos plotiniano e gnóstico, e que a presença de uma polêmica medioplatônica nesse tratado antignóstico torna plausível uma referência direta da parte de Plotino à um termo característico do vocabulário dos Oráculos Caldáicos. Nosso objetivo é mostrar que, para Plotino, supor um inteligível ignorante (como o Éon Sabedoria de alguns textos gnósticos) no interior do Intelecto constitui uma ameaça ao próprio estatuto do Intelecto como verdadeiro Intelecto. Da mesma forma, aceitar que a ignorância de um Éon seja a causa do universo sensível ameaça a definição do Princípio Primeiro como o princípio último de toda a realidade, pois implica na ideia de que o universo sensível não foi criado como resultado de uma processão (...) indefectível do Princípio Primeiro e da contemplação infalível de seu Princípio original, mas por causa da decadência e da queda de um Éon que desconhece seu Princípio Primeiro, que ele não contempla. Demonstramos assim que, portanto, para refutar o mito valentiniano, foi fundamental para Plotino definir o estatuto do Intelecto e do universo inteligível e a hierarquia ontológica dos níveis de realidade. A definição da relação entre os inteligíveis e o Intelecto nos capítulos 1 e 2 do Tratado 32 (V, 5) constitui o ponto central para estabelecer, no restante do tratado, o lugar e o estatuto do Uno e do criador do universo sensível, denominado por Plotino como a Alma do Mundo, Demiurgo ou Zeus, assim como sua representação hierárquica triádica dos níveis de realidade sob a forma do mito hesiódico de Urano, Cronos e Zeus. Informed consent is recognized as a primary ethical requirement to conduct research involving humans. In the investigations with the use of human biological material, informed consent (IC) assumes a differentiated condition on account of the many future possibilities. This work presents suitable alternatives for IC regarding the storage and use of human biological material in research, according to new Brazilian regulations. Both norms – Resolution 441/11 of the National Health Council, approved on 12 May 2011, and Ordinance 2.201 (NATIONAL GUIDELINES (...) FOR BIOREPOSITORIES AND BIOBANKS OF HUMAN BIOLOGICAL MATERIAL FOR RESEARCH PURPOSE) of the Brazil Ministry of Health, approved on 14 September 2011 – state that the consent of subjects for the collection, storage and use of samples stored in Biobanks is necessarily established by means of a Free and Informed Consent Form (ICF). In order to obtain individual and formal statements, this form should contain the following two mutually exclusive options: an explanation about the use of the stored material in each research study, and the need for new consent or the waiver thereof when the material is used for a new study. On the other hand, ICF suitable for Biorepositories must be exclusive and related to specific research. Although Brazilian and international regulations identify the main aspects to be included in the IC, efforts are still necessary to improve the consent process, so that the document will become a bond of trust between subject and researcher. Em sua obra O segundo sexo “fatos e mitos”, Simone de Beauvoir se propõe uma genealogia do ser mulher considerando a questão do que fez da mulher o “outro”. Isto porque, em sua análise existencial, a filósofa percebe a situação da mulher como a do inessencial e inautêntico. A mulher estranha a si mesma pois se constitui como o outro do homem. E, por sua vez, vista pelo olhar masculino, a mulher é o misterioso de duas faces, é tudo aquilo (...) que o homem não é e não pode ser, o que faria da mulher o angustiante inexplicável da existência. Nesta alteridade negativa, é construída uma história da mulher no mundo e diversos mitos sobre o que é ser mulher, que resultam em uma situação. Evidentemente, uma situação opressiva, para a qual a autora considera ainda soluções, como a possibilidade de não se encerrar no destino materno e o ganho de poder aquisitivo — que livrariam as mulheres de sua sujeição social. Assim, expomos neste artigo como Simone de Beauvoir caracteriza a situação e os mitos da mulher, a fim de compreender porquê seria a mulher o segundo sexo. (shrink)

Neste artigo pretendemos mostrar as diferentes implicações epistemológicas e éticas da ideia de princípio fisiológico do conhecimento nas filosofias de Schopenhauer e Nietzsche. Pois, se para o primeiro isto será a garantia de afirmação de um conhecimento irracional, para o segundo é a confirmação da não possibilidade de conhecimento. Assim, veremos como, para Schopenhauer, o princípio fisiológico do conhecimento nos liga a essência do mundo e nos torna capazes de atingir em certas vias a própria coisa em si, a vontade. (...) Na filosofia de Nietzsche, tal princípio é a justa prova de que todo o conhecimento não se liga a nada mais do que a manutenção da vida, de forma que a linguagem e a “verdade” são apenas construtos para a sobrevivência humana. Observaremos também qual valoração de vida ambos filósofos imputam em suas considerações, já que, em Schopenhauer, vislumbrar a verdade é se dar conta do quão pouco valor a vida possui, enquanto em Nietzsche a tragédia da vida se mostra sempre afirmativa. In recent years, virtue theories have enjoyed a renaissance of interest among general and medical ethicists. This book offers a virtue-based ethic for medicine, the health professions, and health care. Beginning with a historical account of the concept of virtue, the authors construct a theory of the place of the virtues in medical practice. Their theory is grounded in the nature and ends of medicine as a special kind of human activity. The concepts of virtue, the virtues, and the virtuous (...) physician are examined along with the place of the virtues of trust, compassion, prudence, justice, courage, temperance, and effacement of self-interest in medicine. The authors discuss the relationship between and among principles, rules, virtues, and the philosophy of medicine. They also address the difference virtue-based ethics makes in confronting such practical problems as care of the poor, research with human subjects, and the conduct of the healing relationship. This book woith the author's previous volumes, A Philosophical Basis of Medical Practice and For the Patient's Good, are part of their continuing project of developing a coherent moral philosophy of medicine. In this paper, I will be primarily concerned with moral issues regarding future people and the environment. When it comes to the future, we have deontological and epistemic limitations. The closer to the present, the higher the certainty and the knowledge we have about facts. Thus, when we intend to find moral clarity regarding a future scenario, we deal with an inverse relation between certainty and time. The main problem is that most ways of dealing with moral issues about future (...) scenarios do not address this relation, and rather focus on things that seem to simplify and clarify the uncertainties of the future. In response to this, I propose a different approach, one that operates neutrally and timelessly dealing with the uncertainties of the future while providing moral groundings that can help to clarify the future’s state of moral vagueness. The global impact of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization and the backlash towards reproductive justice that it represents warrant a global feminist response informed by broad theoretical and geopolitical lenses. We consider how a solidaristic, transnational feminist movement might learn from Latin American feminist movements that have been successful in uniting broad coalitions in the fight for reproductive justice as situated within far-reaching political goals. The paper provides a comprehensive overview of European radical parties. The main aim of this paper is to examine whether there are common patterns regarding these parties, and to analyse the implications of this phenomenon. In order to achieve the above, the paper proceeds as follows: Firstly, the phenomenon of political radicalisation in contemporary Europe is explored. This leads to mapping the radical political landscape in Europe. Finally, the paper concludes with the analysis of the possible outcomes of radicalisation of (...) The rituals practiced by the initiated and learned by the “chosen ones” so that they can be perpetuated, have generated the existence of two worlds. The first is that of immediate impact, on the first level of perception, amendable in its circumstantial data. The second world is the treasurer of recognizable factors in many similar situations, in stages different from manifestation and elements of the unique, the unusual. The second level has established itself as a human need to periodically immerse (...) in the sacred time. The initiation into the mysteries held by the world of the sacred is made by those who know how to practice it. They are the perfomers of narrative sequences, which are intended to reinstate the practices, rituals, customs, traditions and beliefs in today’s world. To support our claim, we are going to refer to four surveys, conducted on different, but conjunct topics which have confirmed the hypothesis formulated by us in the early 1990s: folk beliefs, ignored during the communist period and banned within the audiovisual, have merged with religious beliefs and have survived as a second level of perceiving the ritual sequence. The study highlights the syncretism of the two fields, religious faith and folk beliefs, and the role of mass media in promoting them in order to revitalize the collective memory and to contribute to the literacy of the younger generation. The principles of the Orthodox Christian catechesis explain the presence of the priest in the existential ceremonies. (shrink)

Most of the attention regarding the balance between autonomy and paternalism has been focused on the therapeutic relation. Much less attention has been devoted to the problem of autonomy in the application of medical knowledge for preventive purposes. Here, because the good to be achieved is social as well as individual, an unavoidable dilemma ensues. Effective preventive measures of benefit to all must necessarily limit autonomy and involve some coercion. I argue that there are principles which can be established to (...) guide society in a moral use of coercion. The question of employing medical knowledge is not, as it is in therapeutic medicine, to preserve or enhance autonomy. Rather its aim is to enhance voluntary co-operation. Principles for moral use of coercion must thereby be derived from health as a moral value. (shrink)

Il saggio introduce le tematiche di questo numero, soffermandosi in parti- colare sulla rilevanza etica e politica del cambiamento climatico. Dopo una rapida spiegazione dell'effetto serra naturale e artificiale, si ripercorrono le teorie che concepiscono il cambiamento climatico come un problema di giustizia distributiva. Secondo alcuni autori queste teorie non sono suffi- cienti per dare strumenti adeguati, perché il cambiamento climatico rappre- senta un problema etico nuovo, che richiede una strumentazione etica ine- dita. Il saggio approfondisce alcune delle caratteristiche nuove (...) dell'etica del cambiamento climatico, soprattutto in relazione all'impatto che le scelte presenti avranno sulla qualità della vita delle generazioni future.It is an introduction to the topic of the present issue of "La società degli in- dividui", dealing with the ethical and political relevance of climate change. After a brief account of the greenhouse effect, various approaches to clima- te change as a matter of distributive justice are considered. According to many authors, these approaches are inadequate, because climate change is a new issue, requiring new tools. The paper focusses on some of the new fea- tures of climate ethics, mainly in connection with the effects that our pre- sent choices may have on the quality of life of future generations. (shrink)
